Downtown arena city council debate
Edmonton city council will debate an administration recommendation Wednesday to give final approval to a master agreement with Oilers owner Daryl Katz that doesn’t specify the source of the arena money or $14 million to complete the adjoining community rink.
If the Downtown business alliance feels so strongly about the Arena, why do they not put up the short fall funds themselves and/or take on the entire project? If the Arena is going to be such a money maker why has not private business stepped in and already done this?

Honestly don't know what will happen w/ #yegarena today. I think the funding model is ridiculous - too bad private sector won't step up.
For those that state that Businesses will be drawn to the City because of the Arena... I respond and say that businesses move to an area because it makes economic sense to do so. i.e. moderate/low taxes, good infrastructure, excellent employee resource pool, etc are items that are considered and not whether a place has a major sports team or new Arena. Quite honestly businesses might actually be deterred from moving here given the almost for certain increase in property tax that will happen should the arena goes ahead.

If #yegcc really think #yeg taxpayers support #yegarena then put the question on the October ballot. Then we'll really see. @KerryDiotte
