I assume you don't and that purpose of these meetings at City Hall. I hope we have these hearings every single time we put up a stop sign or build a park. People have a right to their opinion and i assume Council will weigh all sides in this issue.

katz wants to make more money off the people of edmonton

I'm glad you guys aren't making decisions for our city ... negativity breeds more negativity.

I wanted the Airport to stay open but Council made a decision to close it. We elected these people and will have to live with their decision whether we like it or not.

@mike quite the chip on your shoulder!! the issue isnt where should the money go, it is about the arena....if its built or not either way it has nothing to do with the homeless or single parents? Boo hoo you dont want your tax dollars going to a new arena...tax dollars went to the new museum...how many people bought seasons tix to support that??? How much money is the city making on that deal...oh is that a waste of your tax dollars too?

how many edmonton residents are going to work at the new arena not as many as you think because people from the states and other provences will take 90 percent of the jobs

The biggest problem in this debate is the focus on hockey. Really it has little to do with the argument aside from the fact 40-50 nights a year the Oilers will be the primary tenent. It is about jobs, economic impact, revitalizing a downtown and keeping Edmonton's place as a good place to live. I agree with the murder rate, potholes, snow clearing but we have all those problems now and still don't have a new facility. If the arean deal goes down the toilet are all these problems solved? I doubt it.

I don't think the Oilsands are employing Albertans exclusively either. Attracting skilled professionals to the Province and City is a good thing isn't it?

Just arrived at #yegarena public hearing. On panel 3 right now. #yegcc questioning speakers.
I think people on both sides are a little tired of this. I would like to see the Arena District built but honestly getting tired of hearing about it. Either way i hope we can put this behind us very soon.
by Yes Arena10/25/2011 10:32:20 PM
The plan is to finish by 9:30pm. So far 55 speakers have spoken. Some no shows. From what I've been told 33 pro 22 nay #yegarena #yegcc
As a born an bread edmontonian I have seen calgary surpass us and become a vibrant world renouned city. We have an opportunity to do something for our city that will be the envy of many ... and people still can't get their heads past edmonton of the 70's.

Linda Biegnek: Watched the coliseum built.. says that area did not revitalize? What's the magic that is going to make this happen? #yegarena
The Katz group has no history of operating a sports facility... however the city wants to essentially provide them with $125M to fund this private-venture. This makes me wonder.... If they would invest the same amount of money to allow me to open a theme park, despite the fact that I have no proven history in this line of work... All in all, I have never heard of a bank investing money in an un-proven business venture of a sole party, especially with so little capital invested by that entrepreneur.
by marks10/25/2011 11:39:12 PM
lets not forget that the Katz group is also colelcting all associated revenues... Can the city fund a parking garage downtown for me. I would like to get started in that business.

RT @EdmontonClerk: When panel completes Council will take dinner break. Last panel will be after dinner. Start time depends on end time ...
